SECURE YOUR SOCIAL MEDIA REAL ESTATE

If you are in the beginning stages of your social media marketing effort, we recommend that you secure as much social media real estate as possible. What we mean by this is creating profiles on all relevant social media platforms in an effort to secure your preferred username. Kaylie Jones Books recommends authors to create a Facebook Author Page, Twitter, Instagram, and SnapChat profile.

CHOOSING A USERNAME/DOMAIN NAME

When it comes to choosing your name, our in-house Marketing Specialist, Lauren, always recommends trading on your own name. If you have a common name (such as John Smith), you may want to consider using @thejohnsmith or @officialjohnsmith as your username. Some also choose to go with something like @johnsmithauthor or @johnsmithwriter. BEFORE YOU CREATE YOUR PROFILES, we recommend checking to see if your username has been taken on all social media channels. Then, we recommend checking to see if the domain is available (simply type johnsmithwriter.com into Google, or any search engine). If your username and domain name are available, create your profiles and register the domain. PRO TIP: If you don’t already have a website and need to register your domain, TALK TO LAUREN BEFOREHAND SO SHE CAN GUIDE YOU THROUGH THIS PROCESS.

CONSISTENCY = SUCCESS

It is important that your usernames and domain are the same. Having this consistency will give you a more professional appearance, is easy for people to remember, and looks amazing on business cards.

SECTION 2: HOW KJB PROMOTES ITS AUTHORS ON SOCIAL MEDIA

Kaylie Jones Books promotes its authors on social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter). If you, or your book, receives press pre- or post-publication, please late Lauren know and she will attempt to work in your content with the existing and pre-scheduled social media calendar. Screen Shot 2018-01-31 at 5.35.48 PM.png Kaylie Jones Books social media support team is more than happy to answer questions, give advice, and provide information regarding social media marketing. However, KJB Social is currently unable to provide additional services and support outside the timeline outlined on the previous page. It is the responsibility of the author to cultivate their social media presence, and to promote their work on social media. If you require assistance with web design, social media marketing, and graphic design, we outsource this scope of work to Lauren J Sharkey, who gives a generous discount to KJB authors and offers a variety of payment plan options.

SECTION 3: PUBLIC RELATIONS

Jennifer Jenkins serves as Director of Public Relations for KJB, and works with authors to create, develop, and execute a publicity strategy for their book. Additionally, Jen also acts as a liason between KJB and Akashic to ascertain how the two can work together. Jen’s services include writing promotional copy for social media, checking with local bookstores, book clubs, book groups, etc. regarding events, and coordinating those events with the authors. Jen also researches opportunities to promote books across multiple platforms and is available to authors for consultations.
